Tesla Parks Itself

A Tesla parked itself recently, using vision only, in the latest update that brings actual smart summon and actual auto park as some would call it. These are features that Tesla advertised for years, and it's nice to finally see them in action.

In this case, a Tesla owner whipped out his camera and showed his car driving around a parking lot with a rendering of the surroundings. He was able to select a parking spot on the screen to park and then click a "Start" button to begin the auto park.

After choosing the parking spot, the car pulled forward beyond the spot. A path to park in the parking spot was then revealed.

The car reversed backward and began to enter the parking, with the center console screen showing a visual of the car entering a blue rectangle, which was outlined for the parking spot.

Smooth And Easy

The parking job was smooth and easy and the car reversed into the parking spot without a problem. Again, this was using cameras only and no ultrasonic sensors.

Eventually, cars with ultrasonic sensors will stop using the sensors and switch to using a vision system only.

In the past, some worried that the removal of the ultrasonic sensors was hurting Tesla's sales. However, that appears to be short-sighted, as the vision system seems to be superior to using the ultrasonic sensors.

The next feature I expect to see videos of is the smart summon feature, which takes a car out of a parking spot and brings it to you. This is useful for those who have parked far away and don't want to walk all the way to their car.

It's also incredibly useful for the disabled, who need their car to park by the entrance of the building they are in.

Lastly, there will be a feature that lets you dismiss your car to go park. This is useful for those who want to be dropped off at the front of a building, and then the car can go find a parking spot and lock itself.

Upon leaving the building, the smart summon feature can be used. These are two incredibly useful features. Again, the disabled will benefit greatly from this.

As FSD continues to improve and show its ability to be autonomous, more and more Tesla vehicles will be seen driving without someone, especially in parking lots.
