Robot Wars - Elon Musk Says, "Bring It On" and a Lawsuit Against OpenAI When Seeing Figure Robotics Raising Billions of Dollars To Build a Humanoid Robot To Compete With the Tesla Bot

Elon Musk just said, "Bring It On" and a lawsuit in regard to Figure and OpenAI, a humanoid robot company and an AI company, raising billions of dollars for its venture to build a humanoid robot to compete with Tesla's humanoid robot.

Figure Competing With Tesla Bot

According to Brett Adcock on X, OpenAI and Figure signed a collaboration agreement to develop next generation AI models for robots.

The deal seems to be between Figure, an up-and-coming robotics and AI company, in partnership with OpenAI, NVIDIA, Intel Capital, Microsoft, Bezos Expeditions, and Parkway.

Elon Musk had a response to this, simply saying, "Bring it on."

He also opened a lawsuit against OpenAI showing that what was once an open source, not for profit company has become a closed source, for profit company, for the world's largest company, Microsoft.

This lawsuit has been filed against OpenAI and Sam Altman for breach of contract saying that Altman and others have betrayed an agreement from Open AI's founding to remain as a non-profit company.

Elon specifically states this in the lawsuit:

"OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft.

Under its new board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity.

Contrary to the Founding Agreement, Defendants have chosen to use GPT-4 not for the benefit of humanity, but as proprietary technology to maximize profits for literally the largest company in the world.

OpenAI, Inc.’s once carefully crafted non-profit structure was replaced by a purely profit-driven CEO and a Board with inferior technical expertise in AGI and AI public policy. The board now has an observer seat reserved solely for Microsoft."

Bring It On And a Lawsuit

Elon Musk has said both, "Bring it on" and filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in the span of 24 hours.

It's uncertain how much this lawsuit may or may not affect the progress of Figure and its humanoid robot - however, if OpenAI is a big part of this partnership and OpenAI has to curtail its operations due to this lawsuit, then it is likely that Figure's progress will be slower.

Still, AI is like a genie that has been let out of a bottle. Even if it temporarily slows Figure down, I don't think a lawsuit will do anything else. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

Tesla continues to make progress on its humanoid robot, which, I think, has an advantage over all others due to Tesla's real-world AI training and data it has for its cars already. Tesla has a system in place for training robots to do things and driving is no simple task.

It's good to have competition, though, and I'll be interested to see how fast Figure can get a humanoid robot built and performing tasks. Tesla's main advantage is manufacturing, and its AI prowess is also very good.

I'm wishing both companies' success in their endeavors.
