Close Call With Vehicle and Child Showcases the Need for Autonomous Vehicles That Can Recognize Patterns Faster Than a Human Can

There is a video showing a close call with a human driver and a child crossing the street. Fortunately, the child was safe, however, this video showcases the need for autonomous vehicles.

Child Crossing Street Narrowly Missed

A vehicle with a human driver in it narrowly missed hitting a child in the street, thanks to the quick reaction time of the driver being able to swerve to the right side and avoid the child, driving off in the dirt to the side of the road.

It's very fortunate that this child was not harmed here and thankfully, this driver had a fast reaction time, which saved this child's life.

However, there are many instances where a pedestrian or other driver of another vehicle is not as fortunate in an accident involving human drivers.

In the entire world, according to the WHO (World Health Organization), there were about 1.19 million traffic deaths in the most recently recorded year.

That is a lot of fatalities just from driving, and many of those lives would be saved with advanced autonomous software running on vehicles. Many of these lives saved will not even be heard about because the software will pick up on the pattern needed to make a move to avoid the accident.

Autonomy Is Needed ASAP

Tesla's FSD and other brands of autonomous software are needed as soon as possible. The main reason for this is that the software gets better over time and is ALWAYS paying attention, looking for patterns so that it can react quickly and correctly to situations.

Will the autonomous software be 100% perfect? Probably not. There will be an extremely rare case where it also does the wrong thing and could cause harm.

However, the number of lives saved from this will vastly outnumber the rare case there is an accident.

I think Tesla needs to get its FSD in such a safe state, that it is near impossible for it to collide with someone or something.

Autonomous software is nice in that it will increase the value of a vehicle and let you run it as a robotaxi while you are not driving it.

But, the real benefit is to humanity and the number of lives saved. Autonomous software will always be on and paying attention.

It won't get tired. It won't get distracted by texting or using a phone. It won't turn its head to look out the window while driving.

It won't daydream, causing the need for a quick reaction to a car in front of you.

Now, more than ever, autonomous software is needed.
