Sport Package doesn’t get Crosstrek any closer to an STI

Subaru is offering some STI-branded accessories for the 2016 Crosstrek. Will performance enthusiasts see a Crosstrek STI soon?

Performance enthusiasts are calling for a Subaru Crosstrek STI with engine upgrades, but don’t expect to see it anytime soon. The only thing Subaru of America is offering at this time is a Crosstrek Sport Package. The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Package is available now in the U.S. and it includes three new STI-brand aftermarket products from Subaru Tecnica International (STI).

STI is stepping up their presence in the U.S. market as they announced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. This will start with expansion of the STI-brand aftermarket parts first before the introduction of complete STI-tuned cars. The Crosstrek Sport Package is the beginning of STI’s expansion in the U.S. Subaru says customers can order the new accessories separately or the dealer can add this Crosstrek Sport Package to new vehicle orders. If you were to purchase the accessories separate, it would cost more than the package that is available at a discounted price.

What does it include?

The Sport Package includes three STI accessories for the 2016 Crosstrek. It comes with 17-inch STI 15-spoke Alloy Wheels ($1,681) similar to those on the WRX STI that are finished in black and have STI branded center caps. It also features a flush-mounted STI Rear Spoiler ($482) that is available in black and includes the STI logo on the sides of the spoiler. It also includes an STI leather shift knob ($104) with the red STI logo and red stitching on the boot. (Available only on the CVT automatic transmission models).

This is the beginning of STI’s expansion in the U.S. and performance enthusiasts will have to wait for the introduction of the complete STI-tuned Subaru Crosstrek. The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Package is available now in the U.S. with some STI-brand aftermarket parts that is little more than window dressing and teases fans with things to come.
