The 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class arrives in U.S. showrooms this month and it’s multi-talented design is for a new active generation of buyers. Mercedes has a well-planned out strategy for the new GLA-Class. They will attract a new buyer with the luxury compact SUV who lead active lifestyles. What will make the new GLA-Class attractive to an active generation of buyers?

Attractive on the outside

The all-new 2015 GLA celebrated its U.S. premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2013 and became an instant hit because of its aerodynamic exterior. But it’s what’s underneath that makes it a multi-talented machine and will make it even more attractive with a new generation. The 2015 GLA is the first Mercedes-Benz SUV to be available with the new-generation all-wheel drive system called 4MATIC. And it comes with fully variable torque distribution. What makes it so good on and off-road?

4MATIC all-wheel drive

GLA will fit into the urban lifestyle because of its smaller size and be ideal for commuters. But the optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive will likely be a big hit with a new generation of active buyers. The GLA-Class will take recreation enthusiasts off the beaten path and away from the crowded cities. A new generation of active buyers will use it to go the the beach and mountains and will need it for dirt roads where there will be loose gravel and uneven terrain.

How does it work?

The Mercedes 4MATIC system includes a power take-off to the rear axle that is integrated into the 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and the rear-axle gear with integrated, electrohydraulically controlled multi-disc clutch. 4MATIC allows fully variable distribution of the drive torque between front and rear axles.

It also features DSR (Downhill Speed Regulation) and an off-road transmission mode that can be activated by a button in the center console. It can be used when the vehicle is off-road on a steep decent and will help maintain a slow, manually selected vehicle speed. DSR uses the help of the engine and transmission control systems, and by specific braking intervention.

Off-road display

The head unit can also be switched to an off-road display. The steering angle, the selected off-road transmission mode and a compass are displayed. The roll angle in degrees, the gradient in percent and activation of Downhill Speed Regulation DSR are also indicated. All this is ideal for an active generation of buyers who will use the GLA for recreation.
