How Subaru Impreza and Legacy bests the compact and mid-size segments

The 2014 Subaru Impreza compact and Legacy sedan are tops in the retained value compact and mid-size segments.

Kelly Blue Book’s Blue Book Market Report is out and Subaru has the two top cars on the list for retaining their value. That’s what Kelley Blue Book's Automotive Insights team found as they explored the state of the automotive industry by analyzing auction values around the country.

For price retention, the Subaru Impreza and Legacy sedan are tops in the compact and midsize segments. KBB says these segments have seen some hefty price declines this year, when comparing the top five 2014 model-year vehicles from both the midsize and compact segments. Price retention remains strong for the Subaru Impreza and Legacy models.

The Subaru Impreza topped the list of all models retaining 73.8 percent of its value, while the Legacy came in # 2 with 72.5 retained value. Next was the Scion xB at (69.7 percent), followed by the Scion tC (65.5 percent) and the Honda Accord (65.1 percent). The average of all models was 65.6 percent between both compact and mid-size segments.

The all-wheel-drive Impreza has been touted for its all-weather capabilities, and it seems to be retaining its value better than any other compact because of its other key attributes like affordability, reliability, fuel efficiency and sporty character.

KBB says auction values have dropped to a two-year low in the third quarter, but the 2014 Subaru Impreza compact and Legacy mid-size sedan are bucking the trend and holding their value better than any other vehicles in their respective segments.
