Porsche considers the GT3 to be pinnacle of its legendary 911 series of cars. However, there is apparently a problem with them that has resulted in 2 fires. Two fires does not seem like many until your consider that there are only 785 of the cars on Earth. So about one fire for every 400 cars. That number is about 10 times the rate of the 5 fires for every 20,000 Tesla Model S cars that has resulted in such a huge response from the press. It should be noted that only three of those fires were directly related to the car burning.

According to multiple reports including a press release, one car in Italy and one in Switzerland caught fire. Top-Gear Magazine published a photo it indicated was one of the two cars on fire. In its official press release Porsche stated “After engine damage occurred in two vehicles in Europe and the vehicles then caught fire. Porsche decided to inspect all 785 delivered vehicles worldwide. There was no traffic accident and no personal injure.” (Injure is the way Porsche spelled the word.)

Porsche is also offering to pick up the vehicles anywhere in the world and transport them to a Porsche approved service facility for immediate inspection. This action may seem over the top, but in fact Ford issued a very similar recall of its new Escape shortly after its launch. Ford also offered to pick up customer’s cars and transport them to a Ford facility for inspection.

It should be noted that the vehicle in which actor Paul Walker was killed was not a GT3, and although the remains of him and the driver were burned, there is little doubt they died due to the impact of the crash.
