Lexus has announced a recall on the 2017 ES 350 sedan because it can lose steering control. No, it isn't the fault if the electronic steering module, which many predicted would lead to such concerns, but rather the mechanical bits that are the problem.
Lexus ES 350 Steering Loss
The Lexus ES 350 for 2017 has right-side tie-rod assemblies that may not be assembled correctly. The ES 350 can start to drift to the side and owners may hear a noise prior to more disruptive failure. Lexus will have its dealer technicians inspect the lock nuts on the tie-rods to see if they are loose. If they are, Lexus will replace the entire assembly.
Lexus Recall Process
As required by law, Lexus will notify owners by snail mail of this dangerous issue. However, if you own a Lexus ES you need not wait to be notified by the Post Office. Owners can lookup their car by the VIN number here to see if their car is one of the approximately 2,000 covered by the safety recall.
