Nissan Micra Cup 2016 Calendar and Car Design Revealed

The Nissan Micra Cup 2016 race series will begin in May and run through September, according to the official calendar release this week. The calendar now expands out of Quebec to include Ontario as well. Nissan also announced a new Micra Cup Limited Edition consumer trim for the 2016 model year.

Nissan has unveiled a 2016 race calendar for the second season of the Nissan Micra Cup series in Canada. The calendar expands to events in Ontario as well as Quebec with sixteen races in all. Minor rule changes refine the series, but "Canada's most affordable race series" continues largely unchanged otherwise. The best results of 12 of the 16 races will determine the overall standings and winners.

The first and second races begin on May 14-15 at Calabogie Motorsports Park during the May Race Fest. Races three and four are scheduled for May 27-29 at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant's Spring Classic and races five and six remain to be announced, sometime in June. Races seven and eight will be held July 7-10 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the Mobil 1 Grand Prix. Races nine and ten will be at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant for the Summer classic July 22-24 and races 11 and 12 will be at the Circuit Trois-Rivieres for the Grand Prix on August 12-14. On September 2-4, the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will once again host, this time during the Chevrolet Silverado 250. The final races, 15 and 16, will return September 23-25 at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant for the Fall Classic.

To celebrate the coming season, Nissan released this video of the inaugural Micra Cup series.

For the second season, 90 percent of the drivers from last year will be returning to the Micra Cup along with a slate of new drivers for the series.

To further celebrate the race series, Nissan is releasing a limited-run 2016 Micra Cup Limited Edition consumer-grade car. Inspired by the official Micra Cup race car, the special edition street car includes a similar look with 15-inch, 8-spoke alloy wheels, a numbered plaque inside signed by Micra Cup champion Olivier Bedard, and a paint scheme mirroring the official look of the Micra Cup race car. 250 units of the Limited Edition car will be produced.
