Watch the new Camaro Z28 Crash at the Nurburgring (Video)

After talking yesterday about the next generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28 spy shots showing the car on the Nürburgring, we have video showing the new super muscle car storming around the world’s most infamous road course – and crashing hard.

When images (which we do not have permission to use) surfaced earlier this week showing the new Camaro Z28 testing at the Nürburgring, I figured that it was only a matter of time before video surfaced. Well, video has surfaced and in addition to showing the new Z28 blasting around the track, we watch at the test driver runs into issues and slams the new Camaro into the Nürburgring inner barrier.

Camaro Z28 Crashes at the Ring
The video below is 3:13 long and for the first minute and a half or so, we get to watch and listen as the next generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28 makes its way onto the Nürburgring and begins to work out on the 12+ mile track. At first, while the Camaro seems to be driven a bit gingerly, things appear to be going fine. This footage allows us to see the extreme aero goodies of the new Z28 package while also letting us hear the engine of the newest Camaro roar.

However, just past a minute and a half into the video, the new Camaro Z28 enters a twisty portion of the Nordschleife and locks up the brakes. As smoke pours from the locked tires, the new Camaro hammers the wall with the passenger’s side of the car, hops into the air, slams back down and coasts to a stop in the grassy area – well out of the way of other cars racing past.

As the driver climbs out, we get a look at the wrecked Camaro Z28 from the other side and, surprisingly, there really isn’t that much visible damage done. Of course, there could be suspension damage, but the body work seems to have held up to the impact very well. What is more surprising is that the driver rushes around to the passenger side and pries the door open, helping someone from the car as another person climbs from the back seat. So, someone was giving two other people a ride in the new Camaro Z28 and he crashed it hard.

Another Nürburgring Crash for Chevy
The crash of the new Chevrolet Camaro Z28 comes after the C7 Corvette Z06 also crashed at the Nürburgring during its development stages. While the Z06 handles very well and the Z28 will likely be the best-handling muscle car ever, these wrecks in testing serve as a black eye for the automaker and their high performance development program.

Hopefully GM had a chance to turn in some good laps with the new Camaro Z28 before the driver buried it in the wall, as the muscle car world is eagerly awaiting a Ring time for both the new Mustang GT350R and the new Camaro Z28. This crash could delay the announcement of the Camaro Nürburgring time, especially considering that we still haven’t gotten an official number for the Corvette Z06 after its well-publicized crash.
