New Ram Rebel Black Coming to Detroit

There hasn’t been much said about FCA’s plans for the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, but we know that the new Ram Rebel Black will make its grand debut in the Motor City and while this package is fairly minimal – it is still one great looking truck.

The Ram 1500 Rebel is, without a doubt, the best road-going pickup sold in America for under $50k, and with its unique exterior appointments – it isn’t hard to spot a new Rebel in traffic.

The Ram Rebel features the new RAM grille, lots of black cladding from front to rear and darken projection headlight assemblies, so when you get the Rebel in the Brilliant Black exterior paint – you get one mean-looking half ton pickup. Add in the Bilstein dampers mated with a specially tuned version of Ram’s air suspension setup and the beefy tires – and you have the most capable full size, off-road truck in America for the money.

However, even with the predominantly black exterior trim package that comes standard on the Ram Rebel, some people still want an even darker look, and for those folks – Ram is introducing the new Rebel Black special edition package.

“Adding the Rebel Black package to an already aggressive off-road truck will continue feeding the momentum Rebel is creating for the Ram Truck brand,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand and Ram Brand, FCA - Global. “The Ram Rebel is unique in the full-size truck segment with 33-inch off-road tires, air suspension and custom interior details.”

2017 Ram Rebel Black
Mechanically, the Ram Rebel Black Edition is identical to the rest of the Rebels, but as the name suggests, this package gets additional black trim inside and out.

On the outside, the 2017 Rebel Black gets a black (instead of silver) lower brush guard and black (instead of silver) wheels – making all of the lower trim on the Rebel black. You can get the Black package with any of the colors available for the 2017 Rebel, but it seems to me that Brilliant Black (shown above) makes the most sense.

On the inside, the Ram Rebel Black sports black anodized bezels on the doors, center console, instrument panel and gauge cluster trim, black heated seats with black “Rebel” embroidery and Light Slate Gray accent stitching throughout the cabin. You can opt up to an all-black leather seating package as well, for those who want a higher end feel out of their off-road ready Ram 1500.

Again, it isn’t a dramatic package in terms of unique features, but the Ram Rebel looks even better with the Black package – in my humble opinion.

Pricing for Ram 1500 Rebel with Black package starts at $45,590, not including the $1,320 destination fee. The “regular” 2017 Ram Rebel starts at $44,995, so the Black package only costs $595. Considering the black exterior trim and the unique interior layout, I would call it an easy pick for someone who likes the blacked-out look.

The Ram Rebel Black is expected to begin hitting dealerships in March, so if you love the all-black look and you are looking to get into a new Ram 1500 that will outperform any new truck in this price range – your new truck might just be a few months away from being built.

Those folks who come to the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit will get to see the Ram Rebel Black first, as it is slated to make its grand debut next week in Cobo Hall.
