2015 Ford Mustang Production to Begin Monday - Or Not

Yesterday afternoon there were a handful of reports that customer vehicle production of the 2015 Ford Mustang fastback would begin on Monday, July 14th – which created some obvious excitement as buyers have been lining up for months – but Ford Motor Company reps have argued that production of the S550 is not slated for the coming week.

The folks at Mustang6g.com aren’t wrong very often when it comes to digging up information on the 2015 Ford Mustang, so when one of their members posted a dealer network image showing July 14th as Job #1 for the new Mustang fastback it was expected that this information was true. Unfortunately, multiple sources have since spoken with various Ford Motor Company reps who have refuted the claim of production beginning next Monday.

The Original Report
The screenshot from the Ford Dealer information proclaims that Job #1 for the 2015 Ford Mustang fastback is scheduled for July 14th 2014 with the first official day of sales slated for September 9th 2014. It went on to state that Job #1 for the 2015 Mustang Convertible would hit the line on September 15th 2015 with the first units being sold to customers on October 27th 2014. The screenshot (which you can look at by clicking here) looks completely legit, with other vital dealership information including base pricing for each engine package, the key option packages for the different models and a rundown of the launch activities for the dealership people.

In other words, having seen this information, there was no reason to doubt that the very first customer-bound 2015 Ford Mustang would roll down the Flat Rock Assembly line on Monday July 14th. This was obviously some very exciting news both for prospective owners and people who are simply looking forward to see the next generation Mustang out on the open road. Unfortunately, a great many sources have spoken with Ford Motor Company representatives who have brushed off the suggestion that production will begin on Monday.

PreProduction is Under Way and Will Continue
It seems that the different Ford reps haven’t actually said “No, the 2015 Ford Mustang customer production is not beginning on Monday”, but none of them have confirmed it either. Ford’s Said Deep told Autoblog that he didn’t recognize any of the dates on the screenshot from the Mustang6g posting. He didn’t recognize the dates…but he didn’t actually say no…and I find that to be interesting. The folks at Car and Driver also spoke with an unnamed Ford rep who stated that the preproduction phase will continue for a while, with the first customer units being built closer to the fall launch.

Realistically, while Said Deep stated that he didn’t recognize any of those dates, it is all but official that the 2015 Ford Mustang will arrive this fall and September has been the most popular month discussed in the many rumors. Should that be the case, starting the for-sale production of the next generation Mustang on July 14th – two months before deliveries are set to begin – seems like a very long quality control period to me.

In other words, if production of the 2015 Ford Mustang fastback does begin next week, I would expect to see the first deliveries happening before September 9th and if 9-9-14 is really the customer launch date, I would expect production to begin later in July or in early August.
