2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited Review - What Makes It So Great?

We review the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited and offer a long list of plusses for this great sedan.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - What Is It?
The Sonata is a roomy five-passenger full-size (mid-size to some) sedan. The hybrid part of the name translates to 47 MPG and a nearly silent ride. Limited means it is a top trim.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - What’s It Cost?
Including freight, but not dealer Doc fees, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited is priced at $38,350. These cars really exist. We found one in inventory ready for immediate delivery just 8.4 miles from our home office near Boston.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - What Powers It?
The Hybrid has a 2.0-liter gas-hybrid-electric powertrain. It is front wheel drive. Peak power is just under 200hp. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic with gears, so if you don't like CVTs, maybe this is a good car for you? During our week with the Sonata Hybrid driving in the Metro Boston area, it returned exactly its EPA-rated fuel economy. This car has a crazy range of nearly 600 miles between fill-ups.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - The Drive
The Sonata Hybrid is quiet, refined, and smooth. As long as you drive sedately. The Sonata Hybrid is not a sporty sedan. It likes to glide along in all-electric mode. Push it and it is not rewarding. However, drive it in the suburbs in a chill manner and it’s brilliant. We learned to live in harmony with it in just a day. From then on, it was a very satisfying car to drive.

The Sonata Hybrid is in all-electric mode A LOT. It seems like it just takes occasional breaks to run the engine. The on-screen monitor helps you to see just how often the gas engine is off or the regenerative braking is adding back power. It’s a cool car. It reminded us more of an Accord Hybrid than a Camry Hybrid, but we have not yet tried the new Camry.

Handling is what you might expect. Nice. Comfortable. Not a canyon carver, but not a sloppy old-style sedan either.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - What It Is Missing
There were a couple of things we missed. First, wireless Android Auto. Why am I connecting my phone to the car with a cord in 2024? Didn't the Elantra get wireless phone integration four years ago?  Second, no spare tire. The new 2025 Camry has a spare in every trim

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - Ownership Experience Plusses
Hyundai offers a fantastic 10-year warranty for the first owner. Plus, you get three years of included maintenance. Much better than what Honda and Toyota offer. This is a big deal if you like to save money. We pulled up the IIHS rating and found that the 2024 Sonata is a Top Safety Pick.

2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited - The Conclusion
The 2024 Sonata Hybrid is a great sedan with modern styling and a chill vibe. If you like the idea of 47 MPG combined, operating in electric mode a LOT, and gliding around town silently, this is a great car to consider. Cross-shop it against the new Toyota Camry and Honda Accord Hybrid. We think you may well like it best.
