Car Brands With The Most Speeding Tickets, The 10 Worst Offenders

Which car brands have the most speeding tickets? Here are ten of the worst offenders. Is your car brand on the list?

Some car brands are notorious for having the worst drivers. Which car brands have the most speeding tickets? A report from Kelley Blue Book says the average across all brands is 7.1%. The data comes from Insurify, an insurance comparison shopping service.

KBB says, "They have a good read on speeding tickets because applicants must disclose past tickets when applying for car insurance." Check out the top ten worst offenders and see if your car brand is on the list.

Percentage Of Drivers With A Speeding Ticket By Brand:

  1. Infiniti, 8.7%
  2. Scion, 8.4%
  3. Volkswagen, 8.3%
  4. Subaru, 8%
  5. Mazda, 7.7%
  6. Audi, 7.6%
  7. Kia, 7.6%
  8. Honda, 7.5%
  9. BMW, 7.4%
  10. Hyundai, 7.4%

I've covered this story from the Subaru angle recently.

Another recent study from Insurify I covered reveals the ten car models with the most speeding tickets. Subaru is the automaker with the most models on the list. Subaru now has three models with the most speeding traffic citations.

The Subaru WRX performance sports car is the number one model with the most speeding tickets in the U.S. again and makes it the third year in a row. The BRZ sport coupe is fifth and on the list for the first time, and the Subaru Impreza compact car is ninth.

Is The Insurify Data Flawed?

KBB questions the reliability of the Insurify data. KBB says, "People, not cars, get tickets. So, if you currently own a Honda but once got a ticket while driving a rented Ferrari, you show up in Insurify's study as a Honda owner with a ticket."

From what I've seen, some car brands have sporty cars that are more likely to be purchased by drivers who will take more risks. Infiniti's fastest model is the Q50 Red Sport 400.

Number two, the Scion has the FR-S sport coupe. Volkswagen has the Golf GTI and Golf R sports cars. And Subaru, sitting in the number four spot, has the WRX and recently discontinued WRX STI performance cars. Yes, it's the WRX that has the most speeding tickets for the Subaru brand.

2024 Infiniti G37 speeding on the road

The Car Models By Brand With The Most Speeding Tickets

  1. Infiniti G37 (10.7% of drivers reported a citation)
  2. Scion FR-S (13.7% of drivers reported a citation)
  3. Volkswagen Golf GTI (11.1% of drivers reported a citation)
  4. Subaru WRX (13.6% of drivers reported a citation)
  5. Mazda MX-5 Miata (9.2% of drivers reported a citation)
  6. Audi S4 (14.6% of drivers reported a citation)
  7. Kia Stinger (13.4% of drivers reported a citation)
  8. Honda S2000 (10.8% of drivers reported a citation)
  9. BMW i3 (17.6% of drivers reported a citation)
  10. Hyundai Genesis Coupe (13.4% of drivers reported a citation)

The biggest surprise to me is the BMW i3, for which more drivers are cited with speeding tickets than any other model. That's very strange.

Some Drivers Obey The Speed Limit

Which car brands have drivers with the fewest speeding tickets?

Insurify says, "The three brands that speed the least are Cadillac, with 5.4% of drivers cited, Tesla, with 5% of drivers cited, and Volvo, with 2.7% of drivers cited."

It's not a surprise to me that the three car brands with the least number of speeding citations are luxury car brands. Luxury car buyers tend to be older and more cautious than younger drivers who buy sports cars and take more risks.
