The city of Chicago has ordered 80 natural gas-powered vans and trucks from Advantage Chevrolet in Hodgkins, Ill. The contract awarded by the city asks Advantage to supply one of America's largest urban centers with up to 40 compressed natural gas-powered Chevrolet Express vans and up to 40 CNG-powered Chevy Silverado pickup trucks.

General Motors plans to raise the bar for the muscle car industry when they introduce the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 early next year but before these new high performance Camaros hit the streets, GM hopes to drive more interest in the 580 horsepower ZL1 via a handful of short commercials highlighting the car’s capabilities.

The UAW-General Motors contract has most of the rank and file optimistic about the state of GM, but their jubilance is tempered by the official shutdown of a factory in Shreveport, La. Closing Shreveport Operations for good was the "saddest part" of negotiations, UAW negotiator Joe Ashton told reporters today.

The new contract for auto workers between the UAW and General Motors Co. should get ratified in record time and by an overwhelming margin because the UAW got a lot from GM: At least 6,400 more union jobs, job security, more products to build, plant reopenings, auto workers' first raises in eight years and $5,000 profit-sharing checks. But there were some people who didn't benefit from this four-year contract.

The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will hit the streets early next year as the most powerful Camaro in the Chevrolet brand’s storied history of high performance models and while a proper 6-speed manual transmission will be offered in the ZL1, General Motors expects that more than 50% of these super-Camaros will be fitted with the 6-speed automatic transmission.

General Motors Co. as part of its pending agreement with the UAW is poised to reopen an idled factory near Nashville by next summer to fulfill a promise to the UAW to create jobs. More than 2,000 people would need to be hired or brought off layoff in Tennessee if General Motors plans to run that plant full blast to make cars.

General Motors Co. (NYSE:GM, TSX: GMM) and the UAW shook hands on a four-year contract late Friday, giving GM's rank and file their first pay raises in eight years. While terms of the General Motors-UAW deal weren't immediately disclosed, Reuters reported that 48,500 unionized GM workers would get $5,000 "signing bonuses" and that at least 570 laid-off workers would be re-employed.
