Cadillac (Page 3)

Cadillac

Cadillac is the luxury arm of General Motors and over the past few years, this premium brand has returned to glory as one of the best luxury brands in the world. New models like the ELR and ATS have helped to bring new interest to the brand from new segments while the new XTS and redesigned CTS allow Cadillac to be a top competitor throughout the US market.

Cadillac's sedan lineup is changing. The CTS gives way to the CT5, and the ATS to the CT4. The latter is first revealed in its sportiest version, the CT4-V, in order to show its anchoring in the premium market. It will nevertheless be necessary to confirm subsequently the level of difference between the ATS and the CT4 which seem to remain very close.

GM and Cadillac have some great engineers and designers, but their product planners and marketing teams seem to be clueless. I like the recently revealed 2022 Cadillac Lyriq's styling, plus they have very cool technology shown, combined with a beautiful interior design. Which are all hallmarks of Cadillac’s best selling traits. But looking at a 2022 release, the Cadillac Lyric looks to be providing too little, too late.

The 2020 XT6 is not Cadillac's first attempt to introduce a 3-row SUV in the midsize luxury segment. In 2004 Cadillac had launched the SRX with seven seat to abandon it after a generation. However, after 16 years Cadillac returns to a seven-seater SUV introducing the XT6 to fill the void between the XT5 and the Eescalade.

Spike Lee introduced the new 2021 Escalade. Will the huge luxury vehicle be the new definition of success?

It’s 2020, and we are back to the fate of Cadillac’s flagship, the CT6, and if its Cadillac sourced power plant, the now legendary Blackwing can also be spared from the chopping block. Sure enough in GM fashion, the engine doesn’t fit in any other Cadillacs. This is problem over at GM they also have with electromobility. I explain.

In 2002, Cadillac celebrated 100 years of building cars by building a special mid-engine, supercar concept car: the Cien. Now 17 years after the Cien concept's unveiling, Cadillac could actually realize the dream of the Cien concept using the mid-engine 2020 Corvette Stingray as it's core platform.

A big SUEV like a Cadillac Escalade EV would sell really well under the Cadillac banner, but just like Tesla's Maxwell battery initiative, GM also needs to come up with some revolutionary EV battery initiative of their own to get head of competition. Producing an affordable EV battery will be a decisive factor in taking electric cars to the next generation.

The Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Impala were expected to be discontinued when production of the 2019 model year vehicles ended this summer, but General Motors has decided to continue production of both large sedans through the 2020 build cycle – keeping workers at the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant busy for at least another year.

ANALYSIS AND OPINION: It’s not looking too good in the public relations arena for Cadillac and GM when the national, now world conversation nows turns toward questioning the existence of luxury car brands after the Cadillac XT6-Gate GM Debacle. Aston Martin’s CEO weighed in with the XT6-Gate to establish six ultra brands, and none of the ones below it like Cadillac will surpass them. But let’s be clear: XT6-Gate is an American problem, not a European one.

ANALYSIS AND OPINION: While GM didn’t strike an iceberg like Titanic with the recent Cadillac XT6-Gate Roll Out, XT6’s Super Cruise “Radio Delete” from the options list Gaffe, and Caddy’s the ”Lead Brand” Announcement Kerfuffle with no Caddy BEV for three years, it certainly ran into the reefs too quickly like the Costa Concordia. Although it isn’t a massive blockbusting disaster, it is a serious debacle that needs some changes. And they better do it soon.

ANALYSIS AND OPINION: GM President Mark Reuss’ recent announcement of putting Cadillac as the lead brand against Tesla helped everything else but Cadillac. Cadillac just put their third gas CUV into their portfolio right after this announcement! A real all electric car company doesn’t do that! To be taken seriously by anyone you have to be reliable and believable, and that means having honesty, and to be honest, starting with yourself, you have to believe in yourself. Who’s fooling who?

It was around this time twenty years ago that the now legendary Cadillac Escalade started hauling the ruling class and celebritydom on the streets of the big American cities as if they were elegant stage coaches of the Victorian or Edwardian Eras over 100 years ago. So after reading a story about the disastrous 2009 hybrid I decided to do a flashback ode to the iconic 20th century truck that lives on today.

SHOCKING!! It seems Cadillac and electricity mix like oil and water. Never mind the gas versions are crap, plagued with electrical problems, they can’t even make reliable ones that partly run on electricity either! While GM’s CEO Mary Barra has a “zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion” ten year plan for GM’s future, Cadillac certainly isn’t helping with the failures they’ve had with each electric they tried to sell. CT6 was strike 3. Here’s why and what they can do about it:
