The Dodge NASCAR effort took a big hit yesterday when Ford Motor Company announced a new contract with Penske Racing, but with the introduction of the shadowy teaser picture on the right – its evident that Dodge Motorsports isn’t giving up on the NASCAR Sprint Cup program as they will unveil the new 2013 Dodge Charger Sprint Cup car on March 11th.

One sad fact that likely went unnoticed by most who read Chrysler’s February 2012 sales results was that there were zero Dodge Vipers sold last month – marking the first time in the last 10 years and possibly the first time since the Viper was introduced where there were absolutely none of the American supercars sold.

Just a few days after Penske Racing Dodge Chargers finished a disappointing 32nd and 34th in the 2012 Daytona 500, Ford Motor Company issued a statement proclaiming that Penske would be returning to Ford Motorsports for the 2013 season – both for the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide Series.

February 2012 was a very good month for the Ford Mustang with sales almost doubling compared to the same month one year ago – allowing the Ford pony car to outsell the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger while claiming the title of top rear wheel drive performance car in the second month of the year.

The Chrysler Group has put live the first configuration website for the upcoming 2013 Dodge Dart but in an effort to generate buzz around the new C-segment sedan, Dodge has put up the Dart page before all of the fine print has been finalized – leading the company to attach interesting notes around the site like “preproduction model shown” and “For survey purposes only – prices and features subject to change”.

In September 2011, the Chrysler Group announced that their incredible Dodge Viper ACR had reclaimed the production car record on Germany’s famed Nürburgring with a time of just 7 minutes and 12 seconds and yesterday, the SRT division issued a video of the race-only Dodge Viper ACR-X roaring around the track known as Green Hell in just 7 minutes and 3 seconds – making it one of the quickest cars to ever lap ‘The Ring’.

The Chrysler Group announced yesterday that they will be adding 1,800 jobs at their Belvidere Assembly Plant to prepare for the production of the 2013 Dodge Dart along with meeting the high demand for the other two vehicles currently built in Belvidere, the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot.

Yesterday marked the end of the 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona which for the first time in 10 years featured a Dodge Viper in the field but sadly, when the race drew to an end the mighty Viper failed to live up to the success seen by Viper entries over a decade ago due to some early mechanical issues.

In 2008, Devon Motorworks was founded with the dream of building a truly unique American supercar based heavily on the Dodge Viper but early in 2011, it was announced that the company was going out of business and this past weekend, one of the two Dodge Viper-based Devon GTX supercars sold at the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale Arizona.
