FCA doesn’t officially break down the Challenger and Charger sales by trimline or engine choice, but a company representative has confirmed that during the course of 2016, 33% of the Dodge muscle cars sold were fitted by either the 485hp 392 Hemi or the 707hp Hellcat Hemi.

While the Charger was the less popular of the Dodge Hellcat cars for the second year in a row, there more than three times as many Hellcat Chargers built for 2016 than were built for the previous model year – with more than 4,000 examples of the 707 horsepower super sedan offered up to dealerships around the country.

Mopar didn’t bring out a customized Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to the 2016 SEMA Show, but the crew from SpeedKore brought out their new carbon fiber bodied Challenger with a Whipple-blown Hellcat Hemi – and it is really the only Hellcat you Need to see from SEMA.

The SEMA Show has announced their awards for the “Hottest” vehicles of the 2016 show, with the Dodge Charger being named the inaugural Hottest Sedan of SEMA while the Jeep Wrangler claimed the title of the Hottest SUV of SEMA for the 7th straight year – allowing the Jeep to remain the only SUV to win the title since it was introduced back in 2010.

The production information for the 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been posted on the enthusiast community site Hellcat.org and while they have a ton of statistics on the 707 horsepower muscle car, the key figure is 11,955 Hellcat Challengers sold for 2016 – roughly 67% more than the 2015 model year.

Earlier this week, the white Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat built and tuned by High Horse Performance set a new Hellcat quarter mile record, running a 9.29 at 147.29 miles per hour – beating the previous record of 9.46 that was set by this same car earlier this year.

The AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals were held this past weekend and for the 3rd race in a row, the final round was a duel of Dodge Charger funny cars from Don Schumacher Racing, with Matt Hagan beating teammate Ron Capps – giving Hagan his 4th win of the season, DSR its 13th race of the season and nearly guaranteeing another funny car championship in 2016.
