Ford Announces a Hot New Special Edition 2014 Mustang Package for Japan

All of our attention has focused on the new 2015 Ford Mustang since before the December 5th reveal, but Ford hasn’t forgotten that the 2014 Mustang is still alive and kicking - announcing a new special edition package strictly for the Japanese market with just 40 units planned.

Ford Motor Company has announced that Mustang lovers in the Japanese market will soon be able to order the 2014 Ford Mustang V8 GT Coupe The Black. This is a special limited edition package that will only be offered in Japan and it production will be limited to just 40 examples. Ford has decided to offer this package for the final year of the S197 platform after seeing success from special black packages in Japan in the past. Also, this will get the Mustang name into the Japanese automotive media a bit as Ford prepares to launch the next generation 2015 Mustang later this year.

The 2014 Ford Mustang V8 GT Coupe The Black package begins on the outside with – you guessed it – black exterior paint, black trim from front to back and a set of unique 19” wheels sporting a machined face and black painted pockets. On the inside, the entire cabin is decked out in black from the headliner to the seats to the dash to the carpeting while white stitching on the seats and other leather surfaces adds a touch of class and style. Finally, this new Black Edition Mustang headed for Japan will feature Ford’s innovative glass roof treatment that lets the occupants see out while preventing 90% of infrared rays and 96% of ultraviolet rays as to prevent the driver and passengers from being cooked while enjoying the powerful American muscle car in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The 2014 Ford Mustang V8 GT Coupe The Black officially goes on sale on March 15th and this special edition package carries an MSRP of 5.05 million Japanese Yen – or $49,252 USD with current conversion rates. For comparison, the “normal” Mustang sold in Japan starts at 4,300,000 Yen or $41,937 USD so the new V8 GT Coupe in Black package adds roughly $7,300 to the price. That is a steep climb for a set of unique wheels, a glass roof and a full black interior layout, but we have to take into account that fact that only 40 examples will be made and that this is a special edition of a foreign performance car.

While the 2014 Ford Mustang V8 GT Coupe The Black is designed specifically for the Japanese market it is still a left hand drive car in an area where people drive on the left side of the road and generally prefer right hand drive cars. With this in mind, Ford will offer the 2015 Mustang in right hand drive for markets like Japan, Australia and the UK which should help boost sales, but in the meantime – those Japanese buyers who want the special edition blacked out 2014 Mustang GT will have to appreciate the uniqueness of a left hand drive performance car.
