The 2018 Ford Mustang Bullitt Might Actually Debut Next Week in Detroit

While the new Bullitt-themed Ford Mustang might be on display and on sale at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction later this month, it looks as though the new special edition pony car might actually debut next week at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Earlier this week we reported that the next generation Ford Mustang GT Bullitt Edition might debut at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction on January 19th. It seems as though the first example of the new Bullitt Mustang might be auctioned off in Arizona, but based on a report from Automotive News – the new movie-themed pony car will actually make its grand debut next week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Bullitt Debut at NAIAS
While Ford Motor Company officials declined to comment on the likelihood of the Ford Mustang GT Bullitt Edition debuting at the 2018 NAIAS, a source told Automotive News that the automaker is going to reveal the new special edition pony car on Monday in Detroit. According to this source, the new Bullitt Mustang will be a 2018 model year vehicle in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the movie Bullitt hitting the big screen.

Similar to the movie car and the production models in 2001, 2008 and 2009, the 2018 Bullitt Mustang will likely be dark metallic green with black 5-spoke wheels and other unique trim inside and out. Also, we can expect that the new Bullitt Mustang will have some minor performance upgrades compared to other 2018 Mustang GT fastbacks, such as suspension bits, exhaust or an intake system from Ford Performance.

Provided that this source proves to be accurate, you can be sure to see plenty of pictures of the new Ford Mustang GT Bullitt Edition during our coverage of the Detroit Auto Show next week.

What about the Auction?
While the 2018 Ford Mustang GT Bullitt isn’t going to make its official debut at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, we do expect that the special new Mustang being auctioned off on January 19th for charity will be the first example of the new Bullitt package. The Barrett-Jackson auctions have become a hotbed for first-unit performance cars, so auctioning off the right to own the first S550-based Bullitt Mustang should lead to a solid amount of money for the charity.
