Forza Motorsports 4 won't offer Porsche models

There are only 43 more days until Forza Motorsports 4 hits the US market but we have found out that when Forza 4 hits, there will not be any Porsche cars or SUVs in the industry-leading racing simulator.

Porsche Auto Group has, for some time, had an exclusive deal with Electronic Arts (EA Games) to use their vehicles in games like the Need for Speed series but in the past, EA was kind enough to let other developers use Porsche models in exchange for payment. However, when the folks at Turn 10 Studios (the designers behind the wheel of Forza Motorsports 4) finished designing some 35 Porsche models for use in Forza 4 and went to Electronic Arts to pay homage (and cash) for the usage of the vehicles in the new game – EA said no.

EA Games previously stuck to “arcade” racers like the older Need for Speed games but with their recent, successful attempts to insert themselves into the sim racer segment with Shift 2, Forza Motorsports 4 is in direct competition the EA Games racing series. Because of EA Games’ ventures into new portions of the racing game market it is no surprise that they are not allowing Forza 4 – as the biggest and arguably most successful simulator series of all time – to use the Porsche models. This gives EA’s racing simulators an advantage over Forza, especially to those who are clamoring to drive Porsches in their favorite racing games.

There is some relief for diehard Forza gamers who were looking forward to tearing around FM4’s virtual raceways in Stuttgart built sports cars, as the game will still featured Porsche models prepared by post-title supercar builder RUF. RUF has made an appearance in more than one game (such as older Gran Turismo versions) with the only Porsche models available for gameplay due to similar legal issues and while there will be only 3 RUF models compared to the 35 Porsches originally planned to appear in Forza 4.

While this is bad news for Porsche lovers who looked forward to driving their favorite German sports cars in Forza 4 but for the rest of the gaming world, the loss will be less severe as Turn 10 plans to include 35 different vehicles from various automakers to replace the vehicles lost from the inability to use the Porsche vehicles.

Recently, Turn 10 offered up a video of the making of Forza Motorsports 4 which you can check out below!

EA can take their Porsche license and stick it up their ass. See if I buy another product made by EA. Shift 2 was garbage and was without question the worse attempt at producing a racing sim to date. Now this crap, they just lost my business.

I was one of the suckers that bought the hype of shift 2... Boy did I feel like I just got grifted by a middle schooler. EA may not see it yet but everytime negative news (especially petty news) like this emerges it piles up in our(game buyers) heads and will make a difference on our future purchases. BTW, I have been a loyal fan of Forza since its first release. The sense of community between sim-racers is hard to quantify, but I know it's much bigger than we can imagine. Forums galore with strangers helping others everywhere on the web. To EA, we do take note, and as you are kicking back in your big leather chair in your 40th story office thinking you won't even see a scratch... Just keep it up, and your logo will be filled with scratches and dings that won't buff out.

you can put lipstick on a pig but...

Damn, my fav Forza3 car was 993 gt2.

I hear there is to be no Shift 3, so what EA game is to be the direct competitor ?
I might be dreaming but I am hoping for a Porsche DLC, maybe something can be worked out down the line.

@Anonymous I completely agree with you EA's attempt to create a racing a sim ended with a big FAIL. It would've been great seeing the new&old Porsche models looking there best in Forza 4. The only customers that would ever buy a EA racing game that uses an outdated NFS driving engine would probably be 10yr. old kids. EA well lets just say.. that they lost another customer "myself"..... R.I.P Porsche

Why is EA being a bunch of shitheads and keeping one of the most significant car makers of all time out of whats sure to be one of the most significant racing games of all time? That's low and cheap.

EA SUCKS (not verified)    August 31, 2011 - 8:05AM

well EA are a joke the nfs shift series is complete garbage aswell as the other nfs racing games just have a look at the run its horrible, makes you think what was going through there minds making it and not one person said hold on guys WTF are we doing.im not a lover of porsche and i don't have one in my forza 3 garage so its not a loss for me will be better having 32 extra cars from other companys.

Same here.. will never buy another EA game, same as 5 of my friends.. EA Sucks, they kept us from appreciating Porshce in GT5 too.. now this.. STICK IT EA, you just lost at least 20 customers on this page alone!! have fun greedy gits!

That's also why you don't see Porsche in Gran Turismo series. In the GT series Ruf which modifies Porsche takes its place.

Not gonna lie, I'm actually glad that there won't be any Porsche's in the game. I'm getting kinda tired of seeing them and this will force the devs to put far more interesting cars in the game.

Love them or hate them, Porsche is one of the most successful and influential racing car companies of all time, bar none. Yes, 35 for any single manufacturer is a bit much, but I for one would like to see a few of the major milestone cars as well as the basis for their current racing platforms (997 GT3, etc...) in any racing game. EAs blockage of their inclusion is a disservice to the racing community as a whole and shows how little they actually care about the community. Can't companies put aside this type of schoolyard bickering and just produce games?

No point being critical about EA. They're clearly paid good money for a licence, and it's up to them how they use it. I would have thought it reflects more badly on Porsche. I wonder how long they granted a licence to EA for; how long it has left to run; and how much EA paid for it.

I was actually interested in purchasing the new need for speed on the run as it looks like a pretty interesting game, but now I just lost interest entirely and am considering eating my $5.00 preorders for both madden and NHL 12 as a boycott to ea in it's entirety. Love the quote that ea was kind enough to share the rights to Porsche for money, get real.
