What Can Happen If You Keep Tesla Key Fob in Your Pocket With Coins

This was the question discussed today in Tesla Model S Owners group on Facebook and here are few quick suggestions.

It's possible that you will scratch you key fob if you put it in your pocket with coins. Coins can easily scratch it and damage it. Thus, if you want to still keep your Tesla key fob in your pocket you have to come up with something that will protect it.

You can get a silicone case from Abstract Ocean to protect it. See the picture accompanying this story. It's a simple FobPocket for your Tesla Model S key. It's $10.99 per piece.

Alternatively you can get a metal cover from EVamped and you do not have to worry. But it's much more expensive. The current price is 41 dollars.

Some people say coins in your pocket might block the signal between the fob and car. I don't know. For example Evamped's solution is an aluminum solution and apparently it doesn't block the signal. But if you keep your key fob in your pocket without protection the more likely damage may come from scratching.

Model S key costs about 270 dollars. it's good to make a little effort to protect it. I would either come up with a home-made solution or use the less expensive solution from Abstract Ocean.
