Ford will offer a race car-inspired special edition 2018 GT

The 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition will pay homage to the 1967 GT40 Mark IV that won Le Mans. The limited-edition 2018 Ford GT will feature exclusive race-number graphics, unique interior and exterior colors and other special details. The 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition will have a unique red-and-white-stripe paint scheme.

In 1967, Americans Dan Gurney and A.J Foyt drove the GT 40 Mark IV No. 1 race car into the history books by winning Le Mans. It was the second straight victory for the GT 40. Last year, Ford featured a Heritage edition that paid homage to the first Le Mans-winning GT 40.

“In creating a worthy successor to the 2017 Heritage edition, we logically looked at our next historic Le Mans victory with the all-American team of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt,” said Dave Pericak, global director Ford Performance. “The 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition pays homage to that win, with a modern take on one of the most important vehicles in Ford’s storied history of racing.”

According to Ford, some of the special features on the 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition include: Race Red exterior paint with White stripes, Frozen White #1 hood and door graphics and unique Satin Silver 20-inch one-piece forged-aluminum wheel with Black lug nuts

Owners can select either Matte or Gloss exterior exposed carbon-fiber package.

The special edition will have ebony leather-wrapped carbon-fiber seats with seat insert fabric inspired by the original ’67 Le Mans winning car, and red accent stitching and head restraints with debossed GT logo

Detailing includes an ebony leather-wrapped instrument panel as well as ebony Alcantara-wrapped pillars and headliner.

The 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition car will also have a unique serialized identification plate, plus exposed matte carbon fiber door sills, air register pods and center console.

The newest Ford GTs are rated to have a top speed of 216 mph. Torque News managing editor Patrick Rall breaks down the supercars’ stats this way. “The Ford GT will derive 647 horsepower and 550lb-ft of torque from the twin turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6. This makes the GT engine the most powerful road-going application of EcoBoost technology thus far – although it is not Ford’s most powerful production car ever. That claim still belongs to the 662hp 2014 Mustang GT500, but in this carbon fiber-heavy supercar, this twin turbo V6 makes this the quickest and fastest production road car ever sold by Ford Motor Company.”

All of the 2018 Ford GTs are sold out at a price of at least $450,000 a pop. No word on if there is an upcharge for the 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition.
