Take a Wild Ride Onboard the Subaru WRX STI Mt. Washington Hillclimb Record Run [Video]

Travis Pastrana in the #199 Subaru WRX STI was in full attack mode at the Mt. Washington Hillclimb last weekend. Take a wild ride onboard the STI as he smashes the record.

You need nerves of steel to take a 600hp Subaru WRX STI up the 6288’ summit of Mt. Washington with its steep drop offs. It’s known as the oldest motorsports event in America and it’s one of the scariest places to take a turbocharged Subaru WRX STI rally car. It’s called “Climb to the Clouds” as some of the best race and rally drivers from around the world, compete for “King of the Hill” honors on the Northeast's tallest peak.

Travis Pastrana shattered David Higgins' Mt. Washington Hillclimb record actually beating the record two times during this past weekend. His first record run up the twisty 7.4 mile race course was 5:46.28. Pastrana was unbeatable and shaved another two seconds on his second record run.

Pastrana driving the #199 Subaru WRX STI, smashed the old Mt. Washington Hill Climb recored set by Higgins in 2014. The cars are going up to 116 mph in some sections of the course and there’s no room for error. Higgins went off the side of a cliff on one tricky section and was luckily unhurt. His car landed upright and he had to sit out the rest of the race.
