This past week the Camry celebrated three confirming facts that point to it being the defining car of America. First came the sales reports. Despite slightly lower 2016 Camry sales and slightly higher Accord sales, the Camry leads the Accord in sales through the first half of 2016 by about 30,000 units. It would be hard to call the Accord the most popular selling car since it is no longer even Honda’s top-selling car. If 200,000 families, businesses’, police organizations’, and American municipalities’ choice matters, the Camry is the car of America.

The second way the 2016 Camry rose to be seen as America’s car was its “Most American-made Car” status presented by Cars.com. The Camry, built in Kentucky and Indiana, is made from more than 75% U.S.-sourced components. Something that Cars.com pointed out not a single GM, Ram, or Ford truck can claim.

Finally, the 2016 Camry was called the most reliable midsize car based on initial quality by the J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Study. Like the Corolla and Highlander, which won their classes, the Camry took the top honor in the largest car segment.

That the 2016 Toyota Camry is the “most American-made”, top seller, and the highest quality car in the largest car segment is no surprise to those who have seen it win these awards for decades. It is just further confirmation.

After owning Honda Accords for the past 25 years without one single problem requiring a trip to the Dealer for repair, I was talked in to buying a 2016 Camry XSE. and I am already regretting it. With only 1700 miles on it , I am having an acceleration problem. I will not go in to any detail about it at this time since I am trying to have it repaired. Since the Service Dept. could not duplicate the problem after a couple hours in the shop. The problem still exists and all I can say is " I wish I had my Accord back".

Pat, best of luck having the problem sorted and thank you for commenting. If you have the time, tell us what attracted a loyal Accord buyer to the Camry XSE. (FYI, I owned an "03 Accord V6 EX-L (trans failed at 59K) and '06 Accord (timing belt at 11k). Despite the problems, I loved the Accords and the '06 is still in our family.
