The 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition is Awesome in LA

Among the big debuts at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show is the 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition – a super sinister looking limited edition package for the new Mopar supercar that will be available to just 50 buyers.

The 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition begins on the outside with the stunning metallic matte black paint that will likely have a jazzy name but right now, the company hasn’t announced the official name of this new metallic matte black (although I would like to recommend Anodized Carbon or something along those lines). That sick paint job is enough to make the outside of the Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition stand out in any crowd but the SRT engineers didn’t stop there, adding Black Vapor Chrome 5 spoke “Rattler” wheels, Gloss Black GTS badges, a Satin Black exhaust bezel, Anodized Carbon fuel filler door, orange brake calipers, carbon fiber brake ducts and a unique rear appliqué.

“We’ve been waiting for the right time to use this striking new exterior color at the Chrysler Group and as the flagship for the SRT brand, the Viper is the perfect vehicle to showcase this combination of finishes and details to create such a unique look,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. “The Viper’s unique, hand built and hand painted process allow us to create these ultra-exclusive special series builds. At SRT, the art of the American exotic supercar is every bit as important as its performance, and this car is for the enthusiasts who feel that way too.”

On the inside, the 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition begins with all of the standard goodies of the Viper GTS plus an Alcantara treatment to the headliner, door bolsters and knee pads, Nappa leather and Alcantara seats covered seats, orange accent stitching on all of those Alcantara and Nappa leather covered features, orange accents on the door panels and instrument panels, carbon fiber trim on the center stack, door panels and steering wheels and a unique carbon fiber GTS badge on the dash. Like all 2014 SRT Viper GTS supercars, the Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition is powered by the 8.4L V10 that sends 640 horsepower and 600lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a standard 6-speed manual transmission while a driver selectable suspension setup helps to balance comfort and performance in different situations. Unfortunately, getting your hands on one of the 50 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition models won’t be easy – or cheap.

This new package is the most expensive of the modern Viper lineup with a starting price of $138,885 (not including delivery fees) which is $13,900 more than the “normal” 2014 Viper GTS but it is also the best performing, the most unique and – in my opinion – the best looking of the new SRT Viper and that is saying quite a bit because I love the Viper TA.

While I expect that some critics of the 2014 SRT Viper will point out that the Anodized Carbon Special Edition is nothing more than an interior and exterior appearance package, there is no denying that this new metallic matte black looks amazing but on the Viper, it makes an already wicked looking car appear even more like it’s going to eat your soul. A big thumbs up to the SRT team for getting in on the factory matte action that has been sweeping through the various automakers – but none of those other matte black cars look as great as the 2014 SRT Viper Anodized Carbon Special Edition. If any color scheme is perfect for that car, that's it. The red they chose for the Viper SRT looks gratuitous, like they just chose it because "well, it's a fast car, so we need a red color." This looks bitchin and fits with the Dodge style.
