The personal cars of recent Presidents may surprise you

Many of you may know our current President Barack Obama was driving a Chrysler 300C when he became a candidate in 2008. However his stance on alternative fuels lead him to trade that car in for a Ford Escape Hybrid.

Interestingly, Howard Taft, the first President to drive a horseless carriage tooled about in an Electric Baker, now owned by Jay Leno, 100 years ago.

It seems we have nearly come full circle. Will the next president drive a plug-in car?

Former President George W. Bush has a Ford 250 pickup he mostly drives about his ranch in Texas.

Comerica: auto affordability improving though rates rising

The purchase and financing of an average-priced new vehicle requires 23.2 weeks of median family income in the fourth quarter of 2010, an advance in affordability of 0.5 weeks. Consumers on average spent $700 less (a 3 percent decrease) on a new car. At the same time, the financial costs of a new car increased as the average interest rate on car loans rose 0.5 percent.

Lexus to release 175 IS C350 F Sport Special Editions in 2011

When it comes to open air driving, the buyer with deep pockets has a wide array of models to choose from. Nevertheless few of them deliver the power, performance and sheer pulchritude of the IS C350 F Sport Special Edition, available this month. The 175 to be built make only about five for every U.S. city with a population over 500,000.

Toyota seeks dismissal of unintended acceleration suits

Since the first unintended acceleration lawsuit closed last year with Toyota paying out a hefty $10 million dollars, the Japanese automaker has been bracing for the impact of the class action suits based around their problematic vehicles but with the NHTSA/NASA announcement that no electronic defects were found, Toyota has requested that the class action suits be dismissed.

Chrysler Group covers the HQ building with a 2011 Chrysler 200

The Chrysler Group has used their massive headquarters building alongside I-75 as a billboard several times in the past year, with the 2011 Grand Cherokee and new Ram Heavy Duty adorning the outside of the skyscraper and now the redesigned 2011 Chrysler 200 has taken its place on the company digs in Auburn Hills.

RUF Automotive producing electric Porsches for field tests

RUF Automotive, the German firm so adept at modifying vehicles they are considered a manufacturer, is developing electric Porsches for field tests this year. The vehicles will be produced in association with Seimens AG and adapted from 911 models. Data derived from testing will be provided the German Field Ministry of the Environment, who is sponsoring the trials.
