A123, the company that supplies the battery packs for the gorgeous new Fisker Karma recently discovered a possible coolant leak that could lead to electrical fires in the high tech sedan and today, Fisker issued a statement claiming that the majority of Karma electric sedans built thus far have had new battery packs installed through the new recall – just two weeks after the automaker was made aware of the problem.

Ford taking 30 percent of the water out of auto manufacturing

Ford is beginning 2012 with an aggressive plan to reduce the amount of water used in the fabrication of vehicles and continue the drive to efficiency not only in their vehicle lineup, but the manufacturing process as well. The new goal calls for a 30 percent reduction globally by 2015 of the amount of water used per vehicle in 2009.

LA’s New Year’s arsonist arrested

The first arrest has been made in Los Angeles thought to be the person responsible for 50 different incidents of setting vehicles on fire, some spreading to nearby structures, now estimated to have caused $2 million in damage. So far, no one has been injured in the incidents caused by the New Year’s arsonist. A reward of $60,000 has been set for information leading to the capture and prosecution of the perpetrators.

Natural gas fueling to get boost in 2012

The use of natural gas as a fuel for vehicles has not gotten far primarily due to the lack of refueling stations that deliver the compressed or liquid fuel. During 2012 and the next couple years, T. Boone Pickens, famed industrialist and proponent of natural gas usage, intends to install pumps at 150 truck stops nationwide to service the growing number of commercial vehicles capable of running on the liquid form of the gas.
