Porsche Unveils The New Cayman R

After months of waiting, we finally get to see the new Porsche Cayman R, as it was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Previously referred to as the Cayman CS, this model will lose 121 pounds and add 10 horsepower in the name of performance.

Powering the new Cayman will be a 3.4-liter six-cylinder motor that will develop 330 horsepower. All that power will be sent to the rear-wheels via a six-speed manual. Drop the hammer and you’ll hit 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds.

For that extra boost, Porsche will offer its PDK transmission that will drop the 0-60 mph time by 0.1 seconds. Add the Sport Chrono package and that time drops to 4.7 seconds.

To drop all that weight, Porsche engineers used a plethora of lightweight components, similar to the actions taken on the Boxster Spyder and 911 GT3/GT3 RS. Even the wheels are light, as the set of 19-inch rims that come with the Cayman R are the lightest that Porsche offers.

The new Porsche Cayman R will go on sale in February 2011, but pricing has not yet been announced.
