Acura To Debut 2012 TL In Chicago

Honda’s luxury brand, Acura, will debut its 2012 TL at the Chicago Auto Show next month and one can only hope that the bucktooth grille will be removed, as it was one of the sedan’s major flaws.

“The TL, which recently received the 2011 ALG Residual Value Award for Best Near Luxury Car, further enhances its position in the segment with aggressive, yet refined styling and performance.”

From certain spy photos, the grille seems to be scaled back, but it does still exist in some form. The chrome strip along the rear of the car shrunk as well and the front and rear bumpers have been upgraded.

Not much else is known about the TL, so for the time being let the guesses begin. The vehicle will be introduced by Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales, at a press conference on February 9, 2011.

The current 2011 Acura TL has been praised for its quality and high-tech interior, but there are numerous issues that have plagued the sedan. That being said, the SH-AWD 6MT is one fantastic vehicle that drives like a German luxury sedan, just with a manual transmission that the others refuse to offer.

The Acura TL comes with a 3.7-liter V6 that puts out 305 horsepower. Technological options include navigation system with voice recognition, real-time weather and traffic reports, as well as Acura/ELS Surround audio and Bluetooth compatibility. Chances are these goodies, as well as a few more, will carry over to the new 2012 TL.

The 2012 TL should go on sale next year with more powerful and more efficient V6 engines. Chances are a six-speed automatic will replace the five-speed automatic, but one hopes that the manual transmission will carry over. If it does, Acura might have one of the best driver’s sedans on the market.
