Kate Upton to star alongside Usher in Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl ad
Supermodel Kate Upton is set to star in a Super Bowl commercial for Mercedes-Benz, according to the New York Post. Upton will reportedly play “an object of desire” in the upcoming 60-second spot. “[The commercial] will be a tongue-in-cheek depiction of how far a person might – or might not – go to get their heart’s desire,” according to the automaker.
Despite the fact the Upton is appearing in a luxury car commercial, the popular model will not be doing any driving. Upton’s absence behind the wheel has fueled rumors that she does not possess a driver’s license. Although numerous news outlets have been circulating the news, Upton addressed the rumor on Tuesday tweeting: “My mom this morning ‘did your drivers license expire?’.. No why?... ‘Because the news is reporting it did.’”
No stranger to playing the “object of desire,” Upton has also appeared in a SoBe commercial in which a male contestant is challenged not to look at the curvaceous star’s cleavage. The 20-year-old also appeared in a controversial Carl’s Jr. ad, which was deemed too “revealing” to air during last year’s Super Bowl. The banned commercial depicts Upton seductively eating a spicy Southwest Patty Melt, while writhing on the hood of a classic convertible.
Upton, who became a model in 2008, gained notoriety in 2011 when she appeared in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue. Upton earned cover girl status one year later when she graced the cover of SI’s Swimsuit Issue. She also won SI’s Swimsuit Model Rookie of the Year award in 2011. Aside from SI, Upton is known for modeling for companies like Victoria’s Secret and Dooney & Bourke.
Although Upton was once considered strictly a swimsuit model, she has recently appeared in high-class fashion magazines like American Vogue and Italian Vogue in editorial spreads.
Aside from modeling, Upton has also appeared in two films: Tower Heist (2011) and The Three Stooges (2012).
While Upton may get most of the attention in the forthcoming Super Bowl ad, Mercedes-Benz has indicated that pop star Usher will also appear. A veteran of big-time commercials, Usher has starred in ads for Pepsi, Twix, the NBA, and his personal fragrance line.
The 2013 Super Bowl will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in New Orleans, LA. 2013 Super Bowl ads cost about $3.5 million per 30-second spot. Mercedes Benz did not advertise at last year’s Super Bowl, but did air a commercial during the 2011 game.
