Lamborghini announces Gallardo Tricolore for Italy’s 150th anniversary

Lamborghini has announced that to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, the Italian supercar builder will offer a special edition Gallardo Tricolore sporting the colors of the Italian flag.

As the name may suggest, the Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore is a paint-scheme-based trimline, offered in limited numbers to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. This is Lamborghini’s second color-based special edition Gallardo this year, announcing in January a Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore special edition featuring a variety of colors and a black roof. Unlike the Bicolore, the Gallardo Tricolore is only available in white with an offset stripe running down the driver’s side, sporting the orange, white and green of the Italian flag. The flag-themed stripe also runs through the interior of the 2011 Gallardo Tricolore, across the black leather driver’s seat.

No other information is currently available but according to Autoblog, the 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore is set to be unveiled in Turin, Italy next week and at that point we should have the full details on this anniversary edition Gallardo. The other 2011 Gallardo models come with 550, 560 and 570 variants of the 5.2L V10 mated to either a rear or all-wheel-drive system. Considering the cause for coming up with this special edition supercar being a national birthday, I would expect the Tricolore to be an LP560-4, offering 560 horsepower sent to the ground by all four wheels.

This is the second Italian automaker to offer up a new model to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, as Lamborghini follows Ferrari who opted for a new F1 race car that originally carried the “F150” name and a whole lot of controversy. We can probably surmise that, like the new Gallardo Bicolore, the Tricolore will not be making a trip to the US. will bring you more information on the latest Lamborghini Gallardo trimline as it becomes available.
