The 2013 SRT Viper GTS caught sporting metallic blue near Detroit

This past Saturday, our spy cameras caught a 2013 SRT Viper GTS out cruising Metro Detroit area roads in a dark metallic blue that harkens back to the blue featured on the debut of the original Viper GTS Coupe in 1996 – a color choice that will almost certainly be a big hit with Viper enthusiasts should it become a production option.

We have all seen the 2013 SRT Viper in the deep metallic red at the debut along with the recent images of the bright red 2013 Viper with red stripes. There have been some spyshots floating around the internet of a 2013 Viper in yellow (a color that I saw while behind the walls of the company proving grounds without my camera) and now it looks as though the metallic blue caught in the images on the right could be the next color option for the new Viper when production begins later this year.

While driving around the Metro Detroit are this past weekend, we spied some unique LED headlights that could only belong to one car – the 2013 SRT Viper. Unlike the red and yellow test “mule” Vipers we have seen previously touring the roads of the Detroit area, this one wore a gorgeous dark metallic blue that looks to be similar in hue to the metallic blue that debuted with the original hard-topped Viper GTS Coupe back in 1996. Considering that the 2013 SRT Viper is so much like the original Viper Coupe right down to the GTS designation and the new GTS-R race Viper – it seems only natural that this blue would be among the color choices. Notice that unlike the metallic blue Viper coupes of the late 1990s, the test car shown on the right does not have any white stripes but it does have the black taillight panel.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get in front of the blue 2013 SRT Viper GTS shown in the gallery on the right (click thumbnails for bigger images) as the driver appeared to be less than interested in having the car photographed. We followed the Viper for about ten minutes – during which he noticed that we were taking pictures. He occasionally waived in the rear view mirror and gave us plenty of first-person examples of the 2013 Viper V10 revving and accelerating away from a few stop lights. However, after following the Viper for a few minutes through traffic, he entered a subdivision and quickly pulled the car into a garage. We continued snapping as we rolled past but when we turned around and came back, the garage door was closed and the Viper was gone from sight.

Interestingly, the 2013 SRT Viper GTS caught in the images on the right shares a garage with a Chevy Aveo 5-door…quite the interesting mix of vehicles in that household. We have blurred the license plates of all of the vehicles in these 2013 blue Viper spyshots for the security of the driver and homeowner. We were able to get some great shots of the back end of the 2013 Viper in blue, including shots with the taillights lit up, the right turn signal blinking and a close up of the new “Strkyer“ logo lit up with the brake lights. There are also a couple side shots giving a better look at the new Viper sporting this gorgeous new blue exterior color. Sadly, we didn’t get any front shots but with this vehicle being located in the area of our office – hopefully we will trip over it again soon.

Our thanks to the driver of the 2013 SRT Viper GTS shown in the gallery above for giving us an earful of what the new Viper has to offer.
