General Motors announced this morning that the company well sell the Opel and Vauxhall automotive operations in Europe and all of the accompanying assets with those brands including 11 production facilities and an engineering center to PSA – with a purchase price of 1.3 billion Euros or $1.376 billion US dollars.

The Chevrolet Volt will also be sold as the Opel Ampera in some European markets and with the first Ampera sedans reaching owners after being named the European Car of the Year, Opel has reportedly received over 7,000 preorders for the electric vehicle – causing GM to believe that the goal of 10,000 Ampera sedans sold this year is a very real possibility.
