2013 Audi RS 5 Coupe ‘launches’ at Snake River Canyon

Today Audi ‘launched’ the 2013 RS 5 like never before at Snake River Canyon, home to one of America’s boldest daredevil attempts.

Yesterday, Audi launched the Audi RS 5 Cabriolet online for all the world to see. Today the 2013 RS 5 Coupe ‘launched’ like never before at Snake River Canyon. The famous canyon is home to one of America’s boldest daredevil attempts. On September 8, 1974, Evel Knievel attempted to jump the Snake River Canyon in his custom built X-2 Skycycle. His attempt on the 4781 foot jump came up short and he landed in the river below.

Audi has returned to the famous site and has come up with a brilliant idea on how to launch the 2013 RS 5 Coupe. They have constructed a ramp and will ‘launch’ the high-performance coupe by making an attempt to jump the same Canyon where Evel Knievel made his attempt 38 years ago. The video below, first takes a look at the 1974 attempt and then shows the red 2013 Audi RS 5 Coupe getting ready to jump the canyon.

When asked “why do you do it?”, Knievel said, “I do it because I’m Evel Knievel. There is something within me that makes me do it.” Right before he was launched, he went on to say, “The only way to get me out of the air will be with anti-aircraft guns, because I am going to go.”

On July 18, 2012, Audi returned to Snake River Canyon with the RS 5 and made the video showing the red coupe attempting the same jump. While we don’t see what happens at the end, it’s a good marketing piece to launch the all-new 2013 RS 5.

The RS 5 could certainly give the Snake River Canyon a run for its money. The 4.2-liter V8 in the car pumps out 450 horsepower and is track-engineered for race car performance that brings an exciting driving experience to the road. The RS badge brings all of the performance legacy of the Audi name and puts it into a very attractive package.

Audi has competed around the globe resulting in numerous world championships. Audi says, “It's with this spirit that Audi returns to Snake River Canyon to demonstrate the excitement surrounding one of our latest performance models—the RS 5.”

What better place for Audi to ‘launch’ the RS 5 than Snake River Canyon? “Built with performance engineering and fueled by unbridled adrenaline, we’re here to bring you the thrill of 450 horsepower.” The video below is a great marketing piece. See if the 2013 Audi RS 5 can successfully make the jump at Snake River Canyon.
