Ferrari and McLaren Add More Models To the Takata Airbag Recall

The Takata airbag recall has ballooned into the largest automotive recall and the numbers are staggering. As of today, NHTSA reports that 29 million vehicles have 46 million inflators that can shoot out shrapnel, either injuring or killing someone. That's the U.S. alone. The number climbs even higher around the world.

Yesterday, two automakers added their models to the never-ending list. Ferrari has announced their entire lineup from 2016 to 2017 will need to have their inflators replaced. The lineup includes,

  • 488GTB
  • 488 Spider
  • California T
  • F12tdf
  • F60
  • GTC4Lusso

It should be noted that this isn't the first time Ferrari has issued a recall due to Takata inflators. As we reported back in June, the Italian sports car builder recalled a small number of 2009 - 2011 Californias and 2010 - 2011 458 Italias.

Meanwhile, McLaren has announced that it will be recalling all of their models to replace inflators. The list includes,

  • 2011–2015 P1
  • 2012–2014 MP4-12C
  • 2015–2016 650S
  • 2016–2017 570
  • 2016 675LT
