Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for 47,799 GL, GLE, and GLS models due to a problem with occupant classification system - basically, it's a system that detects whether an adult or kid is in the seat and activates/deactivates the airbag. The German automaker discovered that the system was improperly calibrated for the front passenger. This means if an adult is sitting there, the system could turn off the airbag because it thinks that a child is sitting there. The end result is the increased possibility of more injuries in the event of an accident.

The models in question were built between April 23, 2014, to May 10, 2016 according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Mercedes will begin notifying owners this month. The fix will have the dealer update the software for the occupant classification system.

If you have any question on this recall, you're being asked to Mercedes-Benz USA's customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
