Who is buying the 2016 Subaru WRX and WRX STI?

In Canada, the 2016 Subaru WRX and WRX STI already come standard with four winter tires for optimum traction in any conditions. The performance sedans remain hot in the icy cold tundra up north in Canada as a different demographic are buying them at a record clip. Subaru Canada reports record sales for the performance sedans in January with an impressive 53.3 percent increase over the previous year. The WRX/STI performance lineup had their best January ever. Both WRX and STI helped Subaru Canada achieve their highest January sales on record.

WRX appeals to a larger audience

WRX isn’t just for hard-core enthusiasts anymore. Who is buying the 2016 Subaru WRX? With the launch of the new-generation model, Subaru said they wanted to reach a larger audience than ever before and they are. Gone are the days when the sports cars are only driven by a few hard-core fans. Today, you can see “seasoned” men and women behind the wheel of the WRX. It’s become a little more mainstream than it was before the new-generation model arrived. It comes with a CVT automatic transmission and you can even get Subaru’s safety system EyeSight on the hot sedan. It comes with the new 268hp 2.0-liter turbo boxer which provides plenty of performance. You can also get a 6-speed manual gearbox.

STI remans a performance enthusiast’s machine

The 2016 Subaru WRX STI is designed for hard-core enthusiasts and that’s who is buying the hot sedans. The STI will always remain a performance car for enthusiasts who appreciate the extreme performance. They can be seen powering up the North American Rockies to get to the ski slope before anyone else hits the fresh powder. The STI comes with the 2.5-liter boxer that pumps out 305hp. You will also find many owners adding mods to pump up the horsepower well beyond 400hp. There’s an extensive aftermarket performance industry for this niche market.

Subaru is wise to keep their performance brand Subaru Tecnica International (STI) growing and having a bigger influence with the brand in general. The WRX/STI sports cars are leading the way and creates even more interest in the Japanese automaker. There’s a niche market for the 2016 Subaru WRX and it’s appealing to a wider audience. There will continue to be an audience for the 2016 Subaru WRX STI as a new generation of enthusiasts get hooked by its extreme performance.
