Subaru extends STI range with 2014 Impreza hatch STI and sedan STI models

Subaru has announced special edition 2014 “STI equipped” Impreza Sport STI sedan and G4 STI hatch models.

Subaru is shaking things up and has just announced two new special edition 2014 Impreza models. But the big news about the two new sedan and hatchback models is, they will both be “STI equipped.” The information on these two models is coming out of Japan and Subaru isn’t telling us much more than a few details. It looks like the two STI models will be for Japan only, and will be released starting February 4, 2014.

Here’s what we know so far about the new 2014 Impreza special edition STI equipped models. Both special edition models will be ultra-exclusive. Subaru only plans on releasing 275 units a month starting early next year. And we aren’t sure how much STI influence Subaru has allowed the performance tuner to have. Both models will come with the new 2.0-liter engine, but it doesn’t look like they will be turbocharged. Subaru will offer the Impreza special edition models in 4WD or 2WD for the Japan only market.

For now, it looks like the new models will get STI treatments on the exterior and interior, but nothing under the hood. Subaru does tell us in the press release, that they will be “STI sports parts equipped.” They will both feature keyless access and push button start, HID will be a dealer installed option and a Shark fin antenna will also be an option.

From the photos released, we can see that the exterior gets special wheels, satin plated door mirrors and chrome plated door handles. New exterior colors will be available in Satin White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Deep Sea Blue Pearl and Venetian Red Pearl.

Inside, the STI equipped Imprezas will feature a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, leather-wrapped shift lever with piano black decorative panel and shift boot with red stitching. They will also get "special equipment" Alcantara door trim and black Alcantara tricot seats with red stitching.

With the launch of the new 2014 Subaru “Revu-ogu” that was the LEVORG before the name change, Subaru will be bringing a new Revu-ogu STI to the Tokyo Motor Salon 2014 next month. We could be seeing Subaru extend the STI range to include the new sports tourer and Impreza sedan and hatch line in Japan. Will we see these models in other global markets?

If Subaru brings these new STI models to the U.S., they would sell like hot cakes. For now, look for the 2014 special edition “STI equipped” Impreza Sport STI sedan and G4 STI hatch models to launch February 4, 2014 in Japan. Stay tuned to Torque News for the latest STI news.
