Pastrana joins Higgins in the Subaru WRX STI to battle Ken Block at NEFR

Travis Pastrana will enter New England Forest Rally driving the Subaru WRX STI rally car. Will he and Higgins be able to beat rival Ken Block?

New England Forest Rally 2015 (NEFR) is shaping up to be the Rally America battle of the year. Travis Pastrana will join teammate David Higgins to do battle with Hoonigan Ken Block in his Ford Fiesta ST.

What is at stake?

Higgins is trying to achieve a perfect season and Block could throw a wrench into the 2015 Subaru WRX STI’s chances. Higgins, who is currently on pace for a perfect season, is trying to do something that hasn’t been done since American rally legend John Buffum had an undefeated season in 1987.

Pastrana will be driving his 2014 Subaru WRX STI from last year. Pastrana won the New England Forest Rally twice before (2007, 2009) while Higgins claimed his first victory of the rally last season.

This event will be the one to watch with Ken Block at NEFR next month. Block is bringing a full squad of Ford rally cars to compete at the event including a brand new M-Sport Ford Fiesta R5. If Subaru was thinking about an undefeated season, this could spoil their party.

SRT USA has a strategy in place

David Higgins won’t easily give up his winning streak and SRT USA says they have a race strategy to see that he keeps a perfect season intact. Pastrana says, “I’m really glad to be back in a Subaru rally car. The New England Forest Rally is a tough one though; the roads can be rough in places with huge embedded rocks. Subaru Rally Team USA has an excellent strategy in place for us and we’re ready for the fight.”

New England Forest Rally takes place July 17-18 and features 120 challenging stage miles over two days of competition, including a return to the smooth and twisty stages first used in 2014, as well as to the classic Sturtevant Pond/Fish Pond Stages. Will Ken Block spoil Higgins and Drew’s perfect season in the 2015 Subaru WRX STI? Stay tuned.
