Lamborghini unveils new open-top Aventador LP700-4 Roadster

Lamborghini has unveiled the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster that will create a new benchmark for convertible luxury super sports cars.

When Lamborghini introduced the new Aventador LP700-4 Coupe in Geneva 2011, it created quite a stir in the automotive world. Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, said "With the Aventador LP 700-4, the future of the super sports car is now part of the present. Its exceptional package of innovative technologies is unique, its performance simply overwhelming.” Lamborghini has already delivered over 1,300 coupes to customers around the globe and it’s been a big hit with luxury buyers.

The only thing better than the Aventador LP700-4 Coupe would be an open-top version, and Lamborghini has delivered. The Italian automaker has just unveiled the new open-top luxury Aventador LP700-4 Roadster super sports car that is sure to excite the senses. The new convertible version is easily recognized by the unique profile of its top area, that extends along the removable roof to the engine hood.

The new Aventador LP700-4 Roadster has been designed with a two-piece roof that is made entirely from carbon fiber. The new roof weighs only 6 kg and is made from a technology RTM and Forged Composite. The two roof panels can be easily removed in seconds and can be stored in the front luggage compartment and ready for open-top fun.

The ultimate V12 performance

Once the top is off, the driver is ready to experience the ultimate in performance. The new Aventador LP700-4 Roadster will accelerate from 0-62 mph in only 3 seconds flat, just a tenth of a second slower than the coupe, and has a maximum speed of 217 mph. The Roadster is powered by the same 6.5-liter aspirated V12 generating 700 hp as the coupe, and is mated to an ISR seven-speed independent transmission that was supplied from the Graziano Trasmission Group and can shift gears in 50 milliseconds.

When you combine these performance numbers with the ultra-sport push-rod suspension, it makes the new Aventador Roadster a unique convertible super sports car that blows away the competition. The new Lamborghini Roadster also includes a first in the super sports car segment. The new convertible supercar features a Stop & Start cylinder deactivation system when the engine is working at partial capacity. The system includes high-performance capacitors known as supercaps to “awaken” the engine, an absolute first in the segment.

New hood and rear pillar

There is a noticeable new hood on the Roadster because of its central “spinal column” with two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides. The hood is designed to cool the engine, drain off rain water, and will allow the beauty of the V12 powerplant to be admired. The rear pillar has also been redesigned to offer support for the removable roof, accommodate an automatic protection system for passengers, and provide the engine compartment with enough ventilation.

The rear windshield can be lowered or raised depending on the driving experience and conditions, and controls the flow of air in the vehicle, but also allows the driver and passenger to experience of the sound from the high-performance twelve-cylinder engine. Another feature includes a wind deflector that rests on the front windshield frame and can be stored in the luggage compartment when not in use.

New exterior and interior treatments

The body of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster sports a two-tone finish, and a new metallic blue color, Azzuro Thetis, is offered for the first time. The blue shade comes from the beautiful 1968 Lamborghini Miura Roadster. To finish out the exterior look, the new open-top sports car features new aggressive looking forged aluminum Dione 20”/21” rims that lower the weight by 10 Kg as compared with the standard set of rims.

The interior of the new convertible supercar also receives a new look. A new leather called Sabbia Nefertem, is used throughout and upholstery from Sant' Agata Bolognese finishes out the luxury Roadster cabin.

The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster is the most exciting series production convertible ever built and can be ordered now at Lamborghini dealers around the globe for the price of $381,210 U.S.
