First 2016 BMW M2 rolls off the assembly line in Leipzig

The first 2016 BMW M2 Coupe has rolled off the assembly line at the BMW plant in Leipzig. What other BMWs does it share the line with?

The first all-new BMW M2 Coupe rolls off the line today and shares the assembly line with a few of its stable mates at the BMW plant in Leipzig. BMW launched the series production of the first M2s along side the BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 1 Series 5-door on the main line.

BMW also be produces about 100 i8 sports cars and over 20 BMW i3s at the German Leipzig plant daily. The new M2 Coupe is produced for the global market at Leipzig and the only production site for the new high performance car. The M2 replaces the BMW 1 Series M Coupe, which was also built in Leipzig from 2011 through 2012.

The M2 gets its impressive power from the M3/M4. The M2 is powered by a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder inline engine that pumps out an impressive 365 bhp and 343 lb-ft of torque. This is 70 lb-ft more torque than the past generation M3 produced. The high-performance coupe also features an over-boost function that raises the horsepower figure by 26 lb-ft to 369 lb-ft between 1,450 and 4,750 rpm.
