A few facts before 2015 WRX STI breaks cover at NAIAS [+ pics]

The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI is getting ready to break cover tomorrow at the North American International Auto Show. Here are a few facts and 9 leaked images.

We already know what the new 2015 Subaru WRX will look like when it officially breaks cover tomorrow at the the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Michigan. We have seen leaked images of the high-performance sedan and most are included here if you haven’t seen them. The new STI that will be unveiled tomorrow will come with the Rally Blue exterior that the first rally cars were painted. It will also feature the gold alloy wheels that the first 2004 WRX STI had in 2003 when it hit U.S. shores. It was also unveiled at NAIAS in Detroit.

Of course the new 2015 WRX STI will feature the large wing on the back and a chiseled body kit on the outside. What we don’t know yet, it what powerplant will be under the hood of the new high-performance model. STI fans are hoping for more power than the current 305 hp out the 2.5-liter turbo Boxer engine. Just how much power, we don’t know.

We know from the new 2015 WRX that was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2013, that the new STI will be coming with new suspension upgrades and a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model. A new Axel Forward Layout (AFL) is reported to be a new improvement on the STI. The biggest difference is the positioning of the clutch and front differential. Subaru engineers were able to relocate the front axle and it’s now positioned further forward effectively allowing the clutch and differential to switch places.

The new 2015 STI will have improved weight distribution with the Boxer sitting lower and further back in the chassis. It is also coming with a better braking system that electronically manages and restricts torque being fed to the inside tires when turning into a corner. This will effectively reduce understeer by pulling the car into the corner and improve the WRX STI’s cornering ability.

We know the cabin will be upgraded and have more room with the extra inch added to the wheelbase. It’s also going to be more upscale than ever before. Subaru wants the 2015 WRX STI to appeal to wider audience with more refinements. More high-tech upgrades will be offered for 2015 STI and it will be available with navigation and a premium audio system.

The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI will be offered first in the U.S. market followed by the launch of the performance STI in the UK., Europe and Australia. Stay tuned to Torque News when the 2015 WRX STI is unveiled officially for the first time tomorrow at NAIAS. Until then, take a look at the STI in the images above.
