BMW 330e plug-in hybrid just one of four eDrive vehicle segments for BMW

BMW has four eDrive plug-in hybrid models in their lineup. What new groups are they targeting?

BMW will bring the BMW 330e plug-in hybrid to the Tokyo Motor Show where it will make its Asian debut. The new 2016 BMW 330e plug-in hybrid is just one of four eDrive vehicle segments for BMW. BMW is targeting four new buying groups with the BMW 330e 3 Series, BMW 740e luxury sedan, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW X5 xDrive40e.

These four vehicles from BMW eDrive opens up all-electric motoring with zero local emissions to new target groups around the globe. The 3 Series is the best selling model in the Bavarian automakers lineup and the new BMW 330e with plug-in hybrid drive has been added to the model lineup of the new BMW 3 Series.

The 2016 BMW 330e’s plug-in hybrid drive system has a combined output of around 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque (preliminary). The German automaker expects the new plug-in hybrid to have a 0-60 sprint time of approximately 6.1 (preliminary) and a top speed of 140 mph (preliminary). This sounds conservative because the current 240hp 3 Series 328i Sedan will launch from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. BMW claims the new 2016 330e will be capable of traveling up to 22 miles in all-electric mode and therefore with zero local emissions.

Now in the BMW model family, there are four models with BMW eDrive technology that was initially developed for BMW i cars. Now it will be available for BMW models spanning four different vehicle segments from the compact to the luxury class. Look for the 2016 BMW 330e plug-in hybrid to be the top selling BMW eDrive model for the brand around the globe.
