The Subaru WRX S4 was the first. A 2017 Subaru Legacy is the latest Japan-only model to get the upgraded SporVita leather interior. Will we see it in other global markets?

The 2016 WRX S4 was the first Japan-only Subaru model to get the upgraded SporVita Leather interior. The Japanese automaker didn’t offer it in other global markets. Now, the 2017 Subaru Legacy sedan is the next Japan-only model to get the fancy interior. What does it include? Will we see it other global markets?

SporVita combines the Italian words sportiva (sports) and vita (life). Subaru chose the Japan 2016 WRX S4 performance sedan as the first Subaru model to get the special genuine leather seats. The leather comes from renowned Italian leather maker Mario Levi. It was only offered in Japan.

Who is Mario Levi?

They are Italy's oldest leather supplier. Based in Turin, Italy, the leather company has a 70 year history of producing fine automotive leather products. From tanning to sewing the leather, they are one of only a few companies who specialize in this fully-integrated production.

The all-new 2017 Subaru Legacy SporVita model takes the sedan’s interior to a new level of luxury. Subaru says the Legacy SporVita also gets special trim and instrument panel decorative effects that will step up the luxury feel combined with the expensive leather.

Other Legacy SporVita upgrades

The exterior of the new Legacy gets upgrades too. The outside of the special Legacy sedan gets Kotsuya velor plating on the black front grille, Kotsuya velor plating with piano black front fog lamp covers, Kotsuya velor plating on the rear garnish, satin plated door mirrors and finished off with 18-inch aluminum wheels with a high luster black finish.

This new 2017 Subaru Legacy SporVita will be a limited release and ultra-exclusive model. The Japanese automaker will only build 300 examples for the Japan market. Will we see it other global markets like the the US, Australia and Europe? It’s not likely as they didn’t offer the 2016 Subaru WRX S4 SporVita anywhere but Japan.
