Kelly Blue Book names the 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid to their “10 Best Hybrid cars under $30,000” list. What sets the XV apart from the rest?

Kelly Blue Book (KBB) has released their “10 Best Hybrid cars under $30,000” list and the list includes only one hybrid that offers all-wheel-drive. Starting with a longer list of all the hybrid cars available for under $30,000, KBB hand-picked the 10 best of 2015. The 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid is the only hybrid on the list that features AWD capability and it sets the multi-purpose vehicle apart from the rest.

The only car on this list to offer the all-weather advantages of all-wheel drive, Subaru's multi-purpose XV Crosstrek Hybrid matches hybrid fuel economy with hatchback flexibility and high ground clearance for recreation enthusiasts. It offers an EPA estimated 30/34/31 mpg city/highway/combined fuel economy. The Hybrid XV’s 2.0-liter boxer engine is coupled to a Continuously Variable Transmission that helps with fuel economy.

Subaru XV’s all-wheel drive capabilities

The CVT works in tandem with Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system and can send additional torque to the rear wheels either proactively or in response to slippage at the front wheels. While Subaru intended this to be for it’s all-weather capability, it also works on dry roads while pushing hard through the curves. This unique system takes input from acceleration, steering angle and yaw rate sensors, and the Active Torque Split AWD optimizes traction and steering response when accelerating through turns and curves, and particularly when the road surface is slippery.

XV Hybrid is for driving enthusiasts

The XV’s CVT includes a manual mode with steering wheel paddle shifters which contributes to its sporty driving dynamics. The system uses a nickel-metal hydride battery and it’s strategically located low in the vehicle, which contributes to greater handling agility. XV hybrid also gets a quicker-ratio electric power steering and special suspension tuning for better cornering ability.
