2015 Subaru Legacy the only car in its class with this standard feature

The first 2015 Subaru Legacy rolls off U.S. assembly line at the Subaru plant in Indiana. It’s the only sedan in it’s class with this feature.

The all-new next-generation 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan has started production in the U.S. Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Like the first 2015 Outback that rolled off the production line two weeks ago at the same plant, there was a celebration by the the Associates who helped produce it. But the celebration was a little bigger because Legacy is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with this model. The first Legacy sedan rolled off the line in September 1989, and over 2.5 million of the flagship models have been produced over those 25 years.

Only car in this class with standard All-Wheel Drive

But the 2015 Legacy is still the only car in this class that comes standard with All-Wheel Drive. This is what sets the flagship Legacy apart from the rest of the mid-size sedans in this class. It’s also what sets the Subaru brand apart as they have created a niche market with their capable all-wheel-drive vehicles. But Legacy is different because it doesn’t fit the typical Subaru mold of being a multi-purpose recreation vehicle. It’s a true flagship sedan.

Tom Easterday. Subaru of Indiana’s (SIA) Executive Vice President said at the ceremony, "With its excellent fuel economy, advanced safety features, enhanced infotainment system and very attractive styling, coupled with Subaru's innovative all-wheel-drive and reputation for reliability, we expect the new Legacy to propel future growth at SIA.”

Completely re-designed for 2015

The Subaru flagship’s sales have been lagging in recent years, and the new 25th anniversary Legacy’s remodel will help it compete with others in the class. Legacy has been completely re-designed for 2015 with new exterior styling, new interior refinement and enhanced safety technology. The 2015 model also offers the largest cabin space in the midsize segment. A big plus will be its higher fuel efficiency and new standard Active Torque Vectoring for greater agility in the corners.

Improved handling

This writer will get a chance to drive the new 2015 Subaru flagship at High Plains Raceway this week and we’ll have a full report on Friday. And it should handle the corners on the track well as the 2015 Legacy is still the only car in its class with All-Wheel Drive as standard. This is an advantage on wet and dry pavement. We’ll be testing the 3.6R Limited with the 256 horsepower 3.6-liter 6 cylinder boxer mated to the CVT automatic with paddles shifters.

Stay tuned to Torque News for a report from the track on the all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan.
