American-built Toyota Camry the Top Vehicle Overall In Dependability

J.D. Power and Associates says that the Toyota Camry ranks highest in its Vehicle Dependability Study.

The most American-made car, and top-selling sedan in the U.S.A. is also the most dependable. This according to J.D. Power and Associates, who says that the Toyota Camry ranks highest in its 28th-annual Vehicle Dependability Study.

The study looks back to model-year 2014 and asks actual original owners to report on the dependability of the car in its first 12 months of ownership. The group says of its rankings, "Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study covers 177 specific problems grouped into eight major vehicle categories."

The study found owners reported that the ten top-selling models in America have an average of 134 PP100. The Camry's ridiculously low score of just 76 PP100 is the best of all vehicles for sale in North America. The average overall for all vehicles is twice as high as the Camry at 156 PP100.

Looking at the details of the study it is apparent that the American-Made Toyota Camry having the best overall score is no accident. Toyota has the best overall dependability among mainstream brands with a score of 123. Only Porsche and Lexus have an overall higher average. Toyota North America also has the top score by model in 10 of the 18 segments.
