2016 Lexus RX 450h Is the Green Vehicle of Texas

Lexus RX 450h hybrid takes home the win at the annual roundup.

The Lexus RX family is no stranger to accolades and awards. This week it is the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) who is heaping praise upon the RX. Specifically, the RX 450h hybrid. The group met the past three days at the Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) to select its category winners. Full details are still emerging, but Toyota was given the green light to announce the RX 450h’s win for “2016 Green Vehicle of Texas.”

TAWA is a very active and respected auto writer’s group who accepts membership requests from all areas, not just Texas. Its two most noted events are the Spring Texas Auto Roundup and the Texas Truck Rodeo held in the fall (around the same time the Yankees of the International Motor Press are on the racetrack for their fall event). At the Roundup, the group evaluates dozens of category leaders. Using the TMS infield road course, and also the surrounding grounds, the group spends two days testing evaluating and ranking he best of the best.

Commenting on the win, Jeff Bracken, Lexus group vice president, and general manager said, “We are grateful to receive this award from such a respected group of auto writers. To win in Texas is a great honor for Lexus and the new RX. We know the mid-sized luxury SUV segment is extremely competitive, which is why the new RX is completely reimagined to reflect a product philosophy that is engaging to look at and dynamic to drive. The results speak for themselves.”

Since Lexus started the premium crossover segment with its RX way back in 1988, the vehicle has been the leader in its segment. It remains the top-selling premium crossover, and the all-new 2016 Lexus RX is still increasing in sales. In April, it was up 30% proving that the new design is even more popular than the outgoing version. In addition to being a standout green vehicle, RX has historically been the safest vehicle in its class, and the 2016 RX is a Top Safety Pick Plus.
