2006-2012 Toyota RAV4 named best pre-owned vehicle

According to the NEMPA/WheelsTV’s respected panel, the Toyota RAV4 is the best pre-owned vehicle in the U.S. marketplace.

The Toyota RAV4 is no stranger to awards. However, most of the awards granted by the motor press are for new vehicles. That leaves out the list of great pre-owned and used vehicles that many buyers are shopping for. To give some recognition to standout vehicles that rise above the rest of the pre-owned field, WheelsTV in conjunction with the New England Motor Press (NEMPA) convenes an annual panel of experts to decide which vehicle in the U.S. market is the single best pre-owned vehicle to buy. At this year’s New England Motor Press awards ceremony at MIT in Cambridge. Mass. the RAV4 was awarded best Pre-Owned Vehicle (POV).

WheelsTV and NEMPA team up to consider dozens of nominations for POV each year in the spring. A panel of experienced media members consider the nominations and narrow the field. From the many considered vehicles just one is selected as the winner. The 2006-2012 Toyota RAV4 rose to take the prize this year.

The third generation of the Toyota RAV4 earned record sales during a downturn in the economy. During its run, the Gen 3 RAV4 consistently doubled the annual sales of the prior two generations. Commenting on the win, the folks at WheelsTV said that the key to the RAV4s achievement has been “…its attractive, family-friendly combination of value, features and reliability. What started as a Recreational Activity Vehicle concept became the defining example of a trend that continues today.”

Accepting the award at the event for Toyota was Antoinette Arianna. Ms. Arianna has supported the New England and Eastern U.S. motor press for many years and has earned the respect and admiration of all who work with her.

Add for the V6: 0-60 in 6.3, 1/4 mile in 14.9 - on regular fuel. Consumer Reports, in their used vehicle recommendations, dubbed it "a budget hot rod". A couple of weeks ago I bought another 2012 and now have identical 2012 RAV4s: Silver, V6, 4WD, Limited, with navigation. So far nothing else has appealed to me. The Porsche Macan is likable but I'm not interested in turbo engines or a $70k "entry level" SUV.
